Summary of Position
The Senior Compliance Manager role at Pirum will play a pivotal role in leading and executing the Compliance and Risk function to (alongside Legal) act as an effective second line of defence within the business, by assisting management in identifying, assessing and effectively managing compliance risks.
Taking a risk-based approach, the Senior Compliance Manager will ensure that every reasonable measure (including policies, procedures, systems, awareness/training and objective-setting) is taken in order to avoid or reduce the possibility of compliance risks materialising and to minimise damage if such risks should nonetheless occur.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Hold Senior Management Functions (SMF 16&17) and manage the relationship with the FCA in a transparent and proactive manner.
• Liaise with Finance and Legal to ensure that all applicable regulatory filings are completed accurately and submitted in a timely manner.
• Proactively advise the Senior Management Team in relation to matters concerning regulated activities and regulatory risks.
• Provide periodic reports/management information to the Executive Committee and support the GC and CFO with the preparation of periodic compliance/risk reporting at Board level.
• Working closely with Legal, provide day-to-day compliance advice to business and support functions, liaising with external professional advisors where required.
• Maintain and conduct the compliance monitoring programme.
• Maintenance of a robust risk and control framework (including a Risk Register and Compliance Manual) and be responsible for monitoring compliance within that framework.
• Support the Information Security team with third party audit processes, including SOC audits and client due diligence exercises. Challenge or implement recommendations from third party auditor reports as appropriate.
• Support Legal and People with periodic PE investor reports relating to ESG (in particular Governance) matters.
• Support Marketing with compliance reviews of marketing materials, articles/interviews, presentations and other publications.
• Liaise with external professional advisors to support the preparation and submission of relevant regulatory applications such as Director/SMCR changes, other ad hoc approvals and liaise with Legal with respect to any FCA information requests.
• Ensure Statements of Responsibilities, annual Fitness & Propriety Assessments and annual Fitness to Act Certificates are kept up-to-date or completed when required.
• Manage, document and report on day-to-day compliance events and ensure that any incidents, such as data breaches, DSARS, complaints and whistleblowing, are adequately investigated independently and in a timely manner.
• Contribute to the delivery of staff training and know-how materials to ensure awareness of, and compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements. Manage the administration of staff training (including via Skillcast) and compliance declarations.
• In coolaboration with Legal, identify and analyse regulatory and legislative changes impacting the business and its reporting requirements and ensure that these are implemented.
• Assist Finance and Legal with the annual capital adequacy assessment process.
• Periodically review compliance policies and procedures to ensure that these achieve compliance with relevant laws/regulations and effectively counter the risk that the firm might be used to further financial crime.
• In collaboration with Legal, ensure that data protection/privacy obligations are complied with, including that Controller/Processor ROPAs, Legitimate Impact Assessments and Transfer Impact Assessments are maintained.
• Conduct regular risk assessments in support of key compliance policies (e.g. financial crime, outsourced service providers etc.) to identify potential compliance vulnerabilities. Develop strategies to mitigate these risks and ensure that appropriate controls are in place.
• Administer and maintain regulatory registers (including Gifts and Hospitality, Conflicts of Interest and Breaches).
• Review and monitor Client and Vendor onboarding and monitoring processes in accordance with the firm’s third party-risk management framework.
• Minimise regulatory and reputational risk by continuously improving operational and compliance processes, working with the firm’s technical specialists to create efficiencies, automation and control where possible or necessary.
• Provide ad hoc support to Legal and/or management, as required.
Skills, Knowledge & Attributes
• 8+ years of in-house Compliance & Risk experience at an FCA regulated financial services firm (sell or buy side). In-depth and practical working knowledge of the FCA Handbook.
• Good understanding of current and evolving regulation in the UK, EU and US.
• Sound understanding of financial products, services and technology.
• Strong and analytical skills, coupled with intellectual curiosity and a continuous improvement mind-set.
• Highly organised and able to work independently as well as collaboratively.
• Results driven and prepared to question the status quo – bringing a commercial and solution-orientated approach.
• Outstanding written/verbal communication and presentation skills and ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and simple manner.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a consistent track record of relationship-building skills, working across functions and regions as a member of a diverse team. Demonstrating a drive to share knowledge and support team members.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and demanding environment by effectively prioritising and managing multiple time-sensitive matters in a systematic manner and with good judgement.
• Proficient in Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
• Strong academic record – a degree in finance, business or law (desirable).
• Professional compliance qualification (preferred but not essential)
